in the summer of 07’ i was living at home and burke was in utah. we arranged for me to come out to utah for our anniversary. we were both very excited to see each other.   when i flew into utah, burke was there to pick me up and the first thing that he did was take me to a surprise location. he said that we needed to get there before it closed and that he hadn't been there before. when we arrived, in the midst of a residential neighborhood was a jeweler. burke just smiled and said that he heard they did a good job and he would like to pick out my engagement ring while i was in town. :) i was perfectly excited! only to enter the office and be told that we were too late and that the goldsmith had somewhere to be. he took our ring sizes and told us to come back on friday.   i started planning in my mind all that i wanted my ring to be. it was the perfect surprise for our anniversary!  

 the next day was the fourth of july and all plans of rings were pushed aside to celebrate.   the day after was our anniversary!!! the entire day was such a sweet experience, and everything seemed to fall perfectly and happily before us. we hiked up to our secret spot in bridal veil falls. and it was beautiful! there was a mountain goat climbing up with us the entire way. :) so cute.

we soon hiked back down and went home to get a little spiffed up. we were anxious to share the evening together in celebration of the beautiful year that we've known and grown to love each other.   the evening was perfect! it was as if burke had talked to the painter of the sunsets long ago to prepare something uniquely extraordinary for our special day! as we drove to the top of the alpine loop, the colors of the sunset grew more and more intense. until we were at the top of the aspen grove and caught the climax of the setting sun. it was truly breath taking, and could not have been more romantic.

after we enjoyed the sunset together, we gathered all the things that burke had prepared and packed and i followed him through a little path until he found the perfect spot right in the grove where we were surrounded by aspen trees. he laid out a blanket and had me sit down while he set up a pretty little table cloth, crystal dishes and goblets, candles and macaroni grill. (mmmm). it was a darling sight! he said a sweet prayer to thank God for our relationship and time together and to bless the food. we ate and blissfully enjoyed each others company. as we finished our food, the night became dark and chilly. burke held me tightly as we looked at the stars and shared some of the hopes we had for our future. i was getting really cold though!   finally burke said that he had prepared a special dessert for our anniversary and he thought that it would warm me a bit. he got out some forks and a tupperware container and asked me to close my eyes. when i opened them he held a beautiful ring underneath the candle light! it was sooooo sparkly! he asked me to marry him and promised to always love me and care for me. (other pretty words were said as well).

he tricked me! all that charade at the jewelers and picking out rings the next day...why he had already done it! the jeweler was totally in on it too.   i picked up my "dessert" fork and poked the ring on my hand, "mmmmmm." :) (ps, he was hiding the ring in the "dessert" tupperware inside of the cooler)! so cute. what a surprise. he did such a good job. it was all perfect. my ring, our anniversary, the entire visit, and most importantly...him.

6 quirky quirks about me & burke!

some fellow bloggers, (namely: Jana Russell and Jinny Valle) have both recently had this tag and passed it on to anyone who wants it. i don't know why, but tags are fun for me. so, i'll take it! :)

rules are: name 6 quirks that you possess. and then tag someone else!

before i begin, let me just say that it is strange for me to be naming quirks. to think of normal stuff about us that others would perceive as weird. because, it's still just our normal selves. so, sorry if this is completely boring. i've decided that the best way to determine quirks is to name the things that we still laugh at and make fun of each other for. so, here we go!

we'll start with burke:
1. his favorite breakfasts are leftovers. he can get straight up out of bed and eat a box of pf changs. cold. it's totally gross. i think it's from living in germany and having brotworst and weird heavily saturated fatty foods all the time.

2. he loves martial art movies. his favorite is "drunken master," made in like 1978. and, when he was little, he took karate from the chuck norris academy. :)

3. he's a complete germaphobe. if he ever orders a soft drink, he unwraps his straw so that his recently sanitized fingers never actually touch the plastic.

4. he can eat more sweet type junk food than anyone i've ever met. his sweet tooth is astounding.

5. when i first met him, the ring tone on his phone was a polyphonic version of the theme song from the old "nightrider" tv series. and, he totally expected me to know what it was.

6. he can fall asleep anywhere and in any position. and, he often does. :) he's basically a narcaleptic.

and me:
1. my first real man crush was on tom selleck. i loooooved magnum pi! and, i watched "3 men and a baby" over and over again.

2. completely NOT a germaphobe. (and yes i have taken micro biology. big deal. i'm still alive)! i love getting dirty. and, i'll totally eat something that fell on the ground. i could expound on my non-germaphobeness, but i'll spare you, in case you're like burke. ;)

3. i ALWAYS eat the outter edges of a food item first to save the best for last. (i.e. sandwiches, cookies, pancakes, etc.). and now, i always give the middlest and best bite to burke. :)

4. burke and i feed our boogers that we pick from our eyes and/or noses to our dogs, and they love it!

5. i love the way that kira, my dog, smells! i don't know what it is, but i could sniff her little doggy dog skin all day long! it's like a comfort drug for me. but not frita, she's kinda stinky-town.

6. i hate showering. i've said that before. but, i just don't like it. but, when i finally do take a shower, i love it! and i'll stay in for an hour or more. :) i like getting really really dirty and saving it up so i can clean up all nice.

okay! now i want to tag my twinners, lacey and crystal. :) you guys are so quirky, i'm way excited about this!!!
